Ben Jones

C BEN JONES – GEORGIA – 6-3, 304

4-year starter.  Good student.  Team captain.  Everything you would want in a Center.  Smart veteran blocker who understands the importance of positioning and leverage.  Does a good job of getting under the pads of the DTs he faces.  Then uses his lower body strength to hold his ground or move them.  Anchors well.  Good pass protector. Shows good awareness.  Keeps his head on a swivel when he’s not engaged.  Active blocker who always finds someone to get his hands on.  Good on shotgun snaps.  Ball comes out quickly and is on target.  Very quick from snap to block.  Uses his hands well.

Can get to the 2nd level, but isn’t a smooth, natural athlete.  Feet aren’t great.  Jones is better in small areas than out in space.  Does have plenty of effort and toughness.  Jones has a bit of a nasty streak.  There were a couple of plays in the SEC title game where he put DL on the ground forcefully.

Very good college player, but lacks any special traits for the NFL.  Won’t wow you in any way, just finds a way to get the job done.  Has the potential to be a solid NFL starter.  Mid-round target.
